About Mr. Stallings
My name is Jody Stallings, and I teach eighth grade English at Moultrie Middle School.
I grew up in Mt. Pleasant where I attended Mt. Pleasant Academy, Moultrie Middle, and Wando High School. I received an MA and BA in English from the College of Charleston.
When I was in middle school, my mom died of cancer. Shortly thereafter I knew I wanted to devote my life to helping and teaching adolescents. In high school, I had an encouraging teacher named Beverly Varnado. It was in her class that I knew I wanted to teach English and to inspire others the way she inspired me.
I've been a teacher of English since 1992. In addition to Moultrie, I've also taught eighth grade at Laing and Cario. I've received a few awards for excellence in teaching, including:
In addition to teaching English at Moultrie Middle School, I also am an adjunct professor of English at American Public University, where I teach military personnel who are stationed all across the world. Additionally, I am the director of the Charleston Teacher Alliance, a teacher advocacy organization.
Aside from teaching, I'm also a writer. My first novel, White Lake, debuted in 2022. I've also published short stories in publications such as The Storyteller and the College of Charleston Magazine. I currently write a weekly column for the Moutrie News called "Teacher to Parent." You can learn more about my writing at JodyStallings.com.
My extracurricular activities center around adolescents. I currently serve as Youth Director for Mt. Pleasant Teen Bible Study, a local Christian youth organization. From 2009 to 2017, I served as Youth Minister for Citadel Square Baptist Church in historic downtown Charleston.
I am married to Stephanie who is also a teacher, and I have two children, Bronte and Brevin.
My hobbies include reading, writing, and collecting old comic books.
That's more than you ever wanted to know. Thanks for reading about me!
