Patriot PRIDE Classroom Management and Discipline Policy
The overall goal of this plan is to allow students ample opportunity to modify their own behavior to comply with classroom expectations.
Students will be taught the characteristics of a student with Patriot PRIDE:
Students with Patriot PRIDE are expected to follow all school and classroom rules and expectations.
When a student does not comply with rules and expectations, an opportunity arises for the teacher to “point out” the infraction and make a “re-teaching point” about the characteristics of Patriot PRIDE. A “Patriot Point” will be issued to students who do not comply with the rules and expectations.
If a student accrues five Patriot Points, the student will copy the “Student PRIDE Letter” and take it home to give parents an opportunity to re-affirm the expectations of Patriot PRIDE to the student. The teacher will check the letter for accuracy and attach it to a copy of the “Patriot PRIDE Progress Report” signed by the teacher. This report will be signed by the parent and returned the next day. If a student does not return it, another Patriot Point will be issued, and the student will be sent to the BIC room to call home and notify parents.
If a student accrues ten Patriot Points, the parents will be invited to come in for a teacher/parent/student conference so that teacher and parents together can re-teach and re-affirm classroom and school expectations.
If a student accrues fifteen Patriot Points, the principal will be notified. He or she will re-teach expectations and will issue the student a consequence for continually disobeying school or classroom rules.
For every five Patriot Points that the student accrues after that, another referral to the principal will be issued.
If the student receives multiple Patriot Points within a short period of time, lunch detention or work detail may also be issued at the teacher’s discretion.
For violations of Level II or III rules, the student will be referred to the principal. Students creating a major class disruption or exhibiting egregiously poor behavior will be sent to the BIC room until a referral can be issued.
Students may earn "Patriot Premiums" after having two consecutive weeks of zero Patriot Points. Patriot Premiums are for acts that go above and beyond behavioral expectations. These can also be arranged through conference with the teacher and may involve cafeteria duty, classroom clean-up, work detail, or another pre-arranged activity. A Patriot Premium erases one Patriot Point.
The teacher may offer rewards for students who are issued zero Patriot Points and / or who accrue a designated number of Patriot Premiums.
